Kallangadi Sippe Palya/ Spiced Water Melon Rind


Hello friends, Have you ever thought of making any dish from Water Melon rind?. Here you go. Its very easy to make and very healthy. Just save the rind once you cut the fleshy centre of Water Melon. You  can prepare varieties of dishes from the rind.( will upload soon). Give it a try and let me know how you liked it..
Preparation time: 15 min
Servings:2

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups finely chopped Water Melon peel
  • 1 chopped Onion
  • 2 Green Chilies chopped
  • 1 spring Curry leaves
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 Tsp Channa dal
  • 1 tsp Blackgram dal
  • pinch of Turmeric powder
  • pinch of hing
  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 2 tbsp Grated Coconut
  • salt to taste

Method:
  • Heat the Oil in a Pan. Add mustard seeds, once they splutter, add Channa dal , Blckgram dal, Green Chili, Curry leaves, pinch of hing and Turmeric powder. Saute for 10-15 secs.
  • Now add chopped Peel, chopped onion and salt to taste. Mix well.
  • Cook for 10 min(until soft).
  • Serve with Chapati Or Rice and rasam.

Rave Idly



Here is a healthy, well known south Indian  breakfast recipes for you all. It does not take much time, hardly takes 25-30 min..Give it a try..Enjoy.

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups Rava / cream of Wheat / semolina
  • 2 cups Yogourt / Curds
  • 1 tbsp Channa dal
  • 1 spring Curry leaves chopped
  • 1 tsp chopped Green chillies
  • 2 tbsp of Cashew nut.
  • 3/4 tsp cooking soda
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp Oil
  • salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves chopped ( optional)


Method:
  • Heat the Oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, once they splutter add channa dal, green Chilies, Cashew nuts and chopped curry leaves.Saute until Channa dal turns light brown.
  • Now add Semolina and dry roast until aroma comes ( 4-5 min on medium flame).
  • Allow to cool for 5 min.
  • Now add yogourt, cooking soda and salt. Mix well into smooth batter( as same as any other Idly batter). Keep it aside for 5 min.
  • Grease the Idly plates with some Oil if required. Pour a table spoon full of batter and steam for 15-20min.Allow to cool for few mins.
  • Scoop out the Idlies from the plate and serve hot with Chutney and Potato Curry.

Spinach-Green Moong Fry


Ingredients:
  • 1/2 bunch chopped Spinach / paalak 
  • 1 Cup whole Green Moong ( pressure cooked - 4-5 Whistels)
  • 1 large Tomato chopped
  • 1 medium Onion chopped
  • 2 cloves of Garlic chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 2 chopped Green Chilies ( to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp Red Chili powder ( optional)
  • Pinch of hing / asafoetida
  • 1 tsp Oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tsp Lime juice


Method:
  • Heat Oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, Green chilies, Garlic, Hing and Turmeric powder. Saute for 10 sec.
  • Add chopped Onion and Tomato. Saute for 2 min. Then add chopped Spinach, again saute for 2-3 min.
  • Now add the cooked Green Moong, salt and Red chili powder. Add some water if required.
  • Cook for another 5-10 min on a medium heat.
  •  Finally add Lime juice and mix well.
  • You can finish off with some chopped Coriander leaves if you like.
  • Serve hot with Chapati or plain Rice.

Sore Kaayi Sippe ( Bottle Gourd Peel) Chutney


Here is a typical Havyaka style Sorekaayi chutney recipe. I learnt this recipe from my mom. It doesnt take much time to prepare. Give it a try. Enjoy.

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup Sorekaayi sippe 
  • 2-3 red Chilies ( to taste)
  • 1 tsp Coriander seed
  • Pinch of hing / Asafoetida
  • 1 cup grated Coconut ( fresh or frozen)
  • 1/2 tsp Oil
  • 2 tsp Tamarind extract
  • Salt to taste
For Tempering
  • 1 tsp Oil ( I prefer Coconut oil)
  • 1 broken red Chilli
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds

Method:
  • Cook the Sorekaayi sippe in water for 10-12 min ( until it becomes soft).
  • Roast the red Chilies, Coriander seeds and Hing in 1/2 tsp Oil.
  • Grind the roasted spices , Tamarind and salt with coconut for about 2 min, then add the cooked Bottle gourd peel  and very little water. Again grind for a min.
  • Finally temper with Mustard seeds and broken red chili.
  • Serve with hot plain rice and a piece of Onion.

Potato- Peas Curry


This is a very easy and simple recipe and it goes very well with Idli. Try it out , enjoy.

Ingredient
  • 3 Potatos ( pressure cooked-3 whistles)
  • 1 medium Onion chopped
  • 2 Green Chilies chopped ( to taste)
  • 1/2 cup frozen or fresh green Peas
  • pinch of hing
  • pinch of Turmeric  powder
  • 1 spring Curry leaves
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tsp Lemon juice

Method:
  • Peel the pressure cooked Potatoes and mash them.
  • Heat the Oil in a Pan or vessel, add mustard seeds, once they splutter add green Chili, Curry leaves,Hing and Turmeric. Saute for 30 sec.
  • Now add Onion and green peas. Saute for 3 min.
  • Then add the mashed Potato, mix well. Add one and a half  cup of water ( as per your consistency). 
  • Add salt to taste. Boil for 5 min.
  • Finely add the Lemon juice and Coriander leaves if you like.
  • Serve hot with hot Rave Idli.

Banana Dose/ Crepe


Ingredients:
  • 3 cups Rice ( soaked in water for 2-3 hours)
  • 4 large fully ripe Banana
  • salt to taste
  • Sugar ( optional)


Method:
  • Grind the soaked Rice and Banana into smooth Batter.
  • Add salt to taste and sugar if you like.( I didnt add).
  • Leave it for 30 min to 1 hour.
  • Heat a non stick pan, pour a ladle full of batter and thinly spread.Cover the lid and cook until it turns light brown. Cook both the sides.
  • Serve with Chutney powder and Ghee or Yogourt.

Podi / Fried Bread Fruit


Ingredients:
  • 2 cups Basan / chick pea flour
  • 1/2 Bread Fruit peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • pinch of Hing/ asafoetida
  • salt to taste
  • Oil for deep frying


Method:
  • Take all the ingredients except Bread fruit and Oil in a vessel. Add a cup of water and mix well to make a smooth batter. Carefully add the water if needed. Consistency should be as of Idli batter.
  • Heat the Oil in a pan, Dip the sliced Bread fruit in the batter and deep fry. Fry until you see light brown colour.
  • Serve hot with chutney or ketchup.

Karida Vodappe

 Here is  a recipe for all snack lovers. Easy to make and almost tastes like Madduru vada!!. You can use left over Odappe dough to make this yummy snack. Have fun enjoy.

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup Rice flour
  • 1 cup chopped Onion
  • 2 tsp chopped green Chillies
  • 1 spring Curry leaves chopped
  • 1/2 cup pressed Rice/ Poha/ Avalakki
  • pinch of Turmeric powder
  • pinch of hing
  • salt to taste
  • Oil for deep frying

Method:
  • Mix all the ingredients ( except Oil) in a vessel with some water. Dough should be very thick, so be careful while adding water. Knead the dough very well.
  • Make small balls out of the dough and pat into small round shape using a thick polythene sheet / aluminum foil or Banana leaf and deep fry in a medium heat.
  • Serve with chutney and a cup of Coffee or Tea.
